Broxton is one of the first sheet metal subcontractors to install leading edge laser inspection system
Broxton Industries Limited has become one of the first companies within the sheet metal subcontracting industry to install a LaserQC – a sophisticated 2D-laser quality inspection system from Virtek which Broxton’s managing director Marcus Ellams predicts will become an ‘absolute requirement’.
The system enables parts to be validated prior to punching. It pinpoints blank development errors at the development state, before running a first-off physical part. This allows operators to carry out routine first-off inspections against libraries of approved 2D blank DXFs, with the process taking only a couple of minutes, as compared to up to half an hour using traditional manual methods. As well as saving time, the risk of human error is dramatically minimized.
“For customers, this helps Broxton to improve overall efficiency and productivity,” says Ellams. “Quality improvements are seen in a reduced number of internal and external rejects, and the efficiency can have a significant effect on on-time delivery.”
Broxton’s specialisation in high mix, low volume parts makes the LaserQC particularly valuable. “Our average batch number is around 120, so reducing punch set time has a big impact on our productivity, and the level of service we offer our customers.”
