Broxton is named ‘Best Subcontractor - Forming and Fabrication’ in major Metalworking Production awards

Broxton Industries Limited has scooped the title of ‘Best Subcontractor – Forming and Fabrication’ in this year’s prestigious Metalworking Production (MWP) Awards.

The internationally recognized, biennial awards - which were initiated in 1984 - are designed to promote the great talent and ability concentrated in the world’s metalworking industry. MWP Award sponsors include the Royal Bank of Scotland Business Banking and the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA).

Broxton’s place at the top of the subcontract sheet metalwork industry was confirmed with the judges calling the company ‘a customer focused, highly efficient operation’.

‘We are delighted to have been chosen as best in our category,’ says Broxton managing director, Marcus Ellams. ‘It is a testament to our achievements in continuous improvement programmes, and shows that our investment in world-class equipment and systems is delivering significant benefits to our customers and strengthening our company. We now look forward to building on this success.’

Broxton’s investment of more than £1 million in plant and equipment in the last five years featured in the award submission, as did its paperless business systems. These use sophisticated information technology systems to communicate with customers and suppliers and have significantly helped to increase the responsiveness of service provided. Broxton’s paperless approach also utilizes CAD/CAM software to turn 2D and 3D data from clients directly into machine programs.

Reducing scrap and machine downtime through the use of an automated high speed laser inspection system also featured, and had reduced set-up times by up to 40% making smaller batch sizes more cost effective.

Overall, efficiency gains have reduced lead-times to customers by an average of five working days and have driven up service levels leading to a healthy 50% growth over the last twelve months.
