Broxton invests £100,000 in surface finishing plant

Cirencester-based sheet metalwork specialist, Broxton Industries Limited, has announced the completion of a major powder paint plant installation.  The £100,000 investment has included a complete refurbishment of the factory, with new roof and cladding, and a major change in layout with an almost three-fold increase in track length.  The powder paint line includes a new three-stage iron phosphate pre-treatment system and an efficient gas convection oven.

As a result of the investment Broxton’s powder painting capability has been enhanced significantly, both in terms of quality and productivity.  A 35 per cent increase in output is anticipated from the increased line efficiency.

‘The investment has given us increased work areas for line loading and off-loading, and improved work flow into assembly and despatch,’ says Broxton’s managing director, Marcus Ellams.  ‘The plant has been designed to operate at higher output levels whilst optimising process time at each stage.  Automatic part cleaning and more flexible stoving both contribute to increased paint capacity and throughput.’

As well as benefiting from painted goods with a better cosmetic appearance and a higher level of durability, many of Broxton’s customers will have the added advantage that in many instances CR4 can now be used in place of more expensive zintec, with improved results.  This is particularly useful in areas such as dressed welds where the zintec coating may have been removed.

The pre-treatment system – a process that is as important as the powdercoat application itself -  provides a clean, uniform grease-free surface by thoroughly washing all parts before painting to reduce the possibility of inclusions.  Chemical and physical actions in the process promote the adhesion of the powdercoat film to the substrate, which ensures that moisture and gases do not cause a breakdown of adhesion, and a stable insulating layer inhibits corrosion should the paint film be damaged.'

' The combination of the improved layout of the factory, the extension of the line and the move to the new pre-treatment system will undoubtedly help us to deliver more flexibility on powder painted parts and even better OTD,’ Ellams concludes.
