Whilst onboarding some new parts recently, one of our senior engineers flagged several challenges presented by a design and its tolerancing. Impossibly deep milled features and very tight true position tolerances that would test the most accurate of machines.
Anticipating manufacturing difficulties, we negotiated small changes to the geometry to enable deep milling and instigated an OEM laser calibration of our 5-axis machine to ensure all axis are true to just a few microns.
Avoiding difficulties has helped the first build go to plan, with efficiency and accuracy.
